The method involves determining an actual value of criterion for a system at current operating range. Optimal criterion-models (19) are utilized with respect to a predetermined weighting function for determining an optimal value of criterion of operating areas for a reference system (12). A variation between the values of the criterion for the range is detected. A control parameter is corrected when the variation between the values is above a certain amount. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for correcting a controller of an internal-combustion engine (2) a computer program comprising a set of instructions for executing a controller correcting method.
