The method involves measuring a turning moment and a turning angle while tightening a bolt connection. Gradient of turning moment is ascertained against the turning angle based on the measurement. The bolt connection is tightened with the ascertained tightening torque. The tightening torque is ascertained from the gradient of the turning point against a desired prestressing force of the bolt connection. An independent claim is also included for a bolt connection tightening device.
