Guided placement of the pin for orthopedic treatment

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for accurately excising a bone and disposing surgical components while the conventional IGS system or the like is expensive and complicated.;SOLUTION: This system and method guide the configuration of support pins and bone engaging members used for supporting an excision block on a bone for excision. An instrument constructed to introduce the pin into the bone is provided with a position tracing element. This system includes a position deciding device for detecting a signal from the position tracing element and transmitting the position information to a processor. The processor compares the position of the instrument with a predetermined position in real time to dispose the pin. When the position of the instrument coincides with the predetermined position of the bone, an annunciator is actuated to display an audible signal or a visual signal to a surgeon to operate the instrument. When a match of space position occurs, the processor actuates an on-board control device of the instrument to operate the instrument.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
