PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of a permanent magnet synchronous motor drive unit that is improved in reliability more than that of conventional types, and to provide the permanent magnet synchronous motor drive unit using the method. PSOLUTION: Regarding the detection of an open phase, a current does not flow, since there is no output from the drive unit in a phase that is interrupted. Accordingly, the presence of absence or the open phase can be known by measuring a current flowing at each phase. When detection output is outputted, in a state where a motor is stopped, however, the detection output is outputted at a voltage value that is permitted by a switching element at the output stage of the drive unit, or within an allowable period.
