PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a porous carbon having a large electrostatic capacitance, the porous carbon obtained from the manufacturing method as well as the porous carbon for an electrical double layer capacitor obtained therefrom and the electrical double layer capacitor using the same. PSOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the porous carbon is characterized by activating a carbonaceous material obtained by removing an organic solvent-soluble content from the soot-like material obtained by incompletely burning a carbon-containing compound under reduced pressure.
