The device (1) has an infrared radiation source i.e. infrared diode (3), and a photoreceiver i.e. phototransistor (4), to detect light pulses produced by blinking of a metrological diode of a digital meter or by passing a color mark on a section of a disk of an electromechanical meter. The photoreceiver presents photo sensitivity permitting detection of an infrared radiation emitted by the infrared radiation source and the light emitted by the metrological diode of the digital meter. The radiation source and photoreceiver are arranged close to each other. An independent claim is also included for an information system comprising a collection module with a wireless communication unit for communicating with a display unit.
