PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing chemical manganese dioxide by selectively precipitating only Mn by use of oxidant from a sulfur reducing leaching solution, for selectively separating the Mn from a ternary system cathode active material (Li(NiMnCo)O) as a cathode active material of a lithium ion battery to be used for a mobile phone or an electric car.SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing chemical manganese dioxide from a ternary system cathode active material of the present invention includes: (a) a first leaching step of leaching ternary system cathode active material powder with a mixture of sulfur and a reducing agent; (b) a second leaching step of successively leaching the first leaching solution; and (c) a step of adding NaSOto the second leaching solution, and selectively precipitating Mn to manufacture chemical manganese dioxide.
