PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subtitle generation and distribution system and method for generating video subtitles, in which subtitles of a video image are generated and the subtitles and the video image are distributed so as to be displayed synchronously on a viewing terminal.;SOLUTION: A subtitle generation and distribution system includes: a photographing apparatus 10 for acquiring video images containing sounds; a video image buffer 41 for delaying the video image acquired by the photographing apparatus 10 for a prescribed time; a distribution server 40 having a distribution unit 42 that distributes subtitle information received from an editing terminal 20 to a viewing terminal 50; a sound recognition server 30 for acquiring a sound recognition result with regard to the sound contained in the video image acquired by the photographing apparatus 10; and an editing terminal 20 having an editing unit 22 and a subtitle buffer 23, the editing unit 22 displaying an editing screen that allows a user to edit the sound recognition result acquired by the sound recognition server 30 and acquiring the subtitles from the editing screen, and the subtitle buffer 23 delaying the time and the subtitles decided according to a prescribed time for delaying the video image with the video image buffer 41 and a processing time required in the sound recognition server 30 and the editing unit 22.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
