PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for avoiding the crashing of a vehicle are provided to implement primary steering gear ratio adjustment for avoiding the crashing of the vehicle and to implement secondary steering gear ratio adjustment for stabilizing the vehicle.;CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for avoiding the crashing of a vehicle includes a crash avoiding path calculating unit(10), a steering angle detecting unit, a controlling unit(30), and a steering gear ratio adjusting unit. The crash avoiding path calculating unit calculates a crash avoiding path with respect to an obstacle based on a distance between the obstacle and a vehicle and the relative speed of the vehicle. The steering angle detecting unit detects the steering angle of the vehicle according to the steering handle manipulation of a driver. The controlling unit primarily controls a steering gear ratio adjusting unit(40) and secondarily controls the steering gear ratio adjusting unit.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2012
