PURPOSE: A method, a translation apparatus and a terminal for providing meaning of words of Chinese sentences in an automatic translation system, and a recording medium storing program for executing the same are provided to reduce the time for searching for the meaning of unknown words when reading Chinese documents or studying Chinese. CONSTITUTION: A terminal(110) transmits a word meaning request signal that requests Chinese sentences and the meaning of words in the sentences and receives and displays Chinese sentences that are divided into words, each indicated with a translated word and the word class. A translating device(130) syntax-analyzes the Chinese sentences based on the word classes according to the word meaning request signal and divides the sentences into words. The translating device extracts translated words corresponding to the words of the Chinese sentences according to the syntax-analysis result and transmits the Chinese sentences that divided into words, each indicated with a translated word and the word class, to the terminal.
