The method involves determining a threshold value of an electrical parameter of a battery using an equivalent circuit (10). Characteristics of the battery are modeled based on parameters of a resistor (20) and a capacitor (22) of the equivalent circuit. The determined threshold value of the electrical parameter of the battery is compared with a value, which represents a specification of the battery. Aging of the battery is considered based on a correction factor of capacitance or internal resistance. A power limit of the battery is determined for time period of up to 20 seconds.
