The component has a shift element i.e. shift fork, for changing gear positions of a gear box. A selector interlock mechanism (17) generates switching forces and is firmly connected with the shift element. The interlock mechanism is fixed in a transit recess (16) of the shift element over a housing. The shift element is made of flat material. The interlock mechanism comprises a catch element for locking in a snap-in configuration and a guide element for a switching guide. Two shift fingers (10) for actuation of the shift element are arranged perpendicular to a side face (6). An independent claim is also included for a switching device comprising a switching dome made of plastic.
