PLATFORM-INDEPENDENT SCANNING SUBSYSTEM API FOR USE IN A MOBILE COMMUNICATION FRAMEWORK

A platform-independent system and associated method are provided for use witha mobile communication device. Included is a mobile communication devicecapable of communicating via a wireless network. Such mobile communicationdevice includes an operating system installed thereon. Associated therewith isa platform-independent scanning subsystem in communication with the operatingsystem of the mobile communication device for scanning purposes. Furtherprovided is a platform-independent application program interface forinterfacing the operating system and the scanning subsystem. The platform-independent application program interface includes an abstract library forporting the platform-independent scanning subsystem to the mobilecommunication device and associated operating system.
