PURPOSE: A device and a method for automatically aligning the center of a steering wheel using the angular velocity of the steering wheel are provided to automatically perform motor driven power steering (MDPS) by implementing self-steering.;CONSTITUTION: A device for automatically aligning the center of a steering wheel using the angular velocity of the steering wheel comprises a compensation control unit (110), a steering position control unit (120), a steering velocity control unit (130), and a motor current control unit (140). The compensation control unit monitors the actual steering angle, steering angular velocity, and motor current of a vehicle; learns the same in order to estimate a compensation value; and periodically adds the same to a control request profile. The steering position control unit compares a steering position command value with the actual steering angle in order to control a steering position according to the comparison result. The steering velocity control unit compares the output value of the steering position control unit with the actual steering angular velocity in order to produce a target motor driving current to transmit the same to the motor current control unit.
