The method involves separately removing a pressing tool of an old heating film from a welding machine (10) by mounting or suspending tool halves of the tool on a transport carriage. The old heating film is removed from the welding machine by mounting or suspending the film on another transport carriage, and a new preheated heating film is positioned in the welding machine. The pressing tool is again positioned in the welding machine. The pressing tool is provided for pressing and welding plastic components, heated by the heating film. A protective cover is positioned on the latter carriage. An independent claim is also included for a transport carriage.
