The method involves detecting or determining manual torque (MH) to steering handle by torque sensor (3). An actuator generates auxiliary force. An evaluation and control unit (2) determines target force (KSOLL) for auxiliary force in response to manual torque and vehicle speed (V). The control signal for producing target force is transmitted to actuator. The determined target force is corrected by weighting factor, which is dependent on temperature factor (FT) of steering system. The temperature (TL) of servo-steering system (1) is detected by temperature sensor (5). An independent claim is included for power steering system.
