Metal oxide-containing powder comprises 30-85 atm.% of iron (Fe) as a mixed oxide, lanthanum (La) or cerium (Ce), and at least one 3-15 atm.% of additional metal component consisting of cobalt (Co), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni) and lanthanide. An independent claim is included for preparing the powder containing metal oxide, comprising preparing aerosol by atomizing a solution, reacting the solution in a reaction chamber using an oxyhydrogen flame, and cooling the reaction mixture and then separating the solid from the solution as a salt of Fe, La, Co, Mn, Ni, lanthanide, aluminum (Al), silicon (Si), gallium (Ga) and/or tin (Sn).
