An output sequence of sorted objects e.g. standard letters is generated according to sort key objects. A nominal position of objects in output sequence is produced for each to-be-sorted object (Gb1,Gb2) e.g. large-sized letter. Output sequence is divided based on calculated desired positions of objects. The sequence (Seq,Seq2) of to-be-sorted objects is transported to a merging unit and is added to the already sorted sequence of objects. The objects are inserted at nominal position of last inserted sequence of objects, to generate a total sequence of sorted objects. An independent claim is included for a device for sorting several objects according to predetermined sorting criterion.
