PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article management technique, which can be easily applied to an existing physical distribution center to improve convenience by allowing effective use of an empty space of an optional place without using a rental container, and can reduce physical distribution cost and CO₂ emission by allowing extension of a layaway period in EC (Electronic Commerce).;SOLUTION: The system includes a virtual rental container site 210 which provides a my-container 211 that is a virtual rental container assigned to each user 100; an EC site 220 which performs EC transaction; and a DB for managing information on articles, information on an owner user (users); information on the my-container; and information on commodities. When either one of browsing, remodeling, back-order instruction and use history inquiry for the my-container is selected by the user, processing corresponding to the selected item is executed in reference to the DB, and the DB is updated according to the processing result.
