The present invention relates to a bulk flywheel energy storage system and a parallel operating control method thereof. The bulk flywheel energy storage stores revival electric energy generated by the regenerative breaking in the reduction of speed of an electric railroad vehicle, and then supplies it with a wire. The bulk flywheel energy storage comprises; a flywheel energy storage bank which connects one or more energy storage modules for storing the revival electric energy in parallel; an energy management device which monitors the storage state and operation characteristics of each energy storage module inside the flywheel energy storage bank and controls the charge and discharge of the revival electric energy through a specific energy storage module by controlling the operation of the flywheel energy storage bank; a first switching unit which is turned on in the reduction of speed of the electric railroad vehicle and transfers the revival electric energy to the flywheel energy storage bank by the control of the energy management device; and a second switching unit which is turned on in the acceleration of the electric railroad vehicle and transfers electric energy discharged from the flywheel energy storage bank by the control of the energy management device to the electric railroad vehicle. The present invention enlarges the entire energy storage capacity by connecting single energy storage modules of N in parallel and increases the easiness of the operation and control of each energy storage module by miniaturizing each energy storage module. The present invention secures design flexibility.
