The zither has a strings web (2), by which strings (3) are run, where string web is arranged at a lateral edge of the body of zither. A support plate (8) is attached for a hand of a player on the string web. The support plate covers a region of the strings with vertical distance adjacent, where the region of the strings is adjacent to strings web. The support plate is detachably clamped to the string web. The support plate is assembled with a lower plate (9) which engages under a body (1), where the spacing of the support plate of the lower plate is adjustable by clamping units (14,15).
