The control unit (2a) has first switching device (15a) whose two terminals (16,17) are connected to two terminals (3,5) respectively. Two terminals (19,20) of second switching device (18) are connected to terminals (5,17), and a terminal (4) respectively. The second switching device is provided to permit current in a direction from terminal (19) to terminal (20) during an open state. A safety driving unit (25) is provided to detect existing or impending of overload of an energy store (10). The first switching device is closed, when overload of energy store is detected. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) the electrical system; and (2) a method for operating the electrical system.
