The method involves assigning a node to a node-known transmission time slot in a bus network and total number of transmission time slots connected to the node. A timer is adapted to obtain a time base to convert the time base into the reference bus time. The reference bus time is sent to the bus network by the timer. The bus time is determined based on the reference bus time in which the length of a cycle and a transmission time window are determined. Time information about the time base and the transmission time window are determined.
