A method for detecting a shifting process of a gear system (40) which constitutes the gear system of a bicycle (10) is described. A drive rotational speed of a drive crank (20) and an output rotational speed of an output gear (30) are detected. The shifting process is detected if the ratio of the output rotational speed to the drive rotational speed changes. Furthermore, a method for the power control of an auxiliary drive (50) of a bicycle (10) is described, in which method a shifting process is detected as described above. The power presetting is reduced and is fed as a setpoint power value to an auxiliary drive (50) if it is detected that a shifting process is being carried out. Finally, a bicycle drive (150) having a control device (100) and an electric motor (102) is described, wherein the bicycle drive (150) is configured to carry out the method described above.
