The present invention relates to a cis-regulatory element comprising a nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2 or a nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 3 which regulates a plant tissue-specific activity of a DEMETER promoter; a gene which induces the expression of a sporophytic tissue-specific foreign gene comprising a nucleotide sequence SEQ ID NO: 1 and a nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2; and a gene which induces the expression of a central cell-specific foreign gene comprising a nucleotide sequence SEQ ID NO: 1 and a nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 3. The cis-regulatory elements of the present invention can be used in studies to investigate the gene expression regulation mechanisms and can also be used as a useful tool in artificial gene manipulation to control the gene expression in a particular step.
