A method of optimally designing a reverse rotation type pump turbine is provided. The method of optimally designing a reverse rotation type pump turbine according to an embodiment of the present invention, including a first impeller including a first wing and a second impeller disposed to be separated from the first impeller at a predetermined distance and including multiple second wings, includes: a step of selecting a response variable value and a design variable value affecting the response variable value; a step of making an orthogonal array table for the design variable value; a step of deriving the response variable value through a numeric analysis from the orthogonal array table; and a step of calculating the optimal design variable value from the response variable values.
