The present invention relates to a fermentation method for Codonopsis lanceolata that improves the cognition enhancing activity of Codonopsis lanceolata, and to a fermented material thereof, and more specifically, to a fermentation method for Codonopsis lanceolata that improves the cognition enhancing activity of Codonopsis lanceolata, wherein the method comprises the following: (a) a first step in which Codonopsis lanceolata is washed and dried; (b) a second step in which an incubation culture containing a Codonopsis lanceolata extract is inoculated with fermentation microorganisms at a pH of 6.0-6.8 and a temperature of 20-30C to allow the activation of the fermentation microorganisms; and (c) a third step in which the washed and dried Codonopsis lanceolata inoculated with the activated fermentation microorganisms in an uncut state, is then subjected to a solid state fermentation under constant stirring by a stirrer, and then aged. The present invention provides fermented Codonopsis lanceolata that is safer for human bodies, and has less side effects compared to chemical drugs which is used for enhancing cognition, by improving the elution of a cognition enhancing component of Codonopsis lanceolata, thus greatly increasing the value of the fermented Codonopsis lanceolata as an ingredient in food and pharmaceutical drugs.
