PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of determining at an early stage whether a subject is suffering from cardioembolic stroke or from non-cardioembolic stroke.SOLUTION: Provided is a method including steps of; determining the amount of a cardiac troponin in a sample taken from a subject suffering from ischemic stroke within 6 hours after the onset of symptoms of ischemic stroke; comparing the determined amount of the cardiac troponin with a reference amount; and determining whether the subject is suffering from cardioembolic ischemic stroke or from non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke.
