PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of an α-Dawson type poly acid, capable of selectively producing an isomer in a simple method for a short time; the α-Dawson type poly acid produced by the method; and an α-Dawson type poly acid compound.SOLUTION: A production method of α-Dawson type poly acid represented by the formula (1) is characterized by reacting a metal acid salt with an inorganic acid comprising a hetero atom in a solvent under reflux conditions. Formula (1): [α-AMO], (where A represents a hetero atom selected from phosphorus, silicon, sulfur, germanium, arsenic, selenium and antimony, M represents a metal atom selected from tungsten, vanadium, niobium, molybdenum and tantalum, O represents an oxygen atom, and in addition, n, x, y and z represent an integer of 1 or more).
