This method for producing a magnesium alloy plate material comprises: a step for preparing an alloy melt which contains from 0.01 atom% to 10 atom% (inclusive) of yttrium and from 0.01 atom% to 10 atom% (inclusive) of zinc, with the balance being made up of magnesium, and which satisfies the relational expression 2/3CZ CYn CZn + 4, where CY (atom%) is the content of the yttrium and CZn (atom%) is the content of the zinc; and a step for producing a magnesium alloy plate material from the alloy melt by a twin roll casting method at a cooling rate of from 600°C/second to 2,500°C/second (inclusive).
