PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator balance weight clearance measurement device capable of preventing an excessive burden by the interference between an elevator installation instrument and a balance weight clearance measurement device in advance upon the occurrence of unexpected circumstances.SOLUTION: A balance weight clearance measurement device for measuring a distance between a buffer 30 installed below a lifting route of a balance weight 2 at the bottom in a hoistway of an elevator and the balance weight 2 at the lowest position of the lifting route includes: a telescopic rod part 41 attached protruding upward from the upper end of the buffer 30 capable of being expanded and contracted within a range of the longest state and the shortest state, and maintaining the length after the expansion or the contraction; and retracting means for moving the lower end of the telescopic rod part 41 below the upper end of the buffer 30 when downward force greater than a predetermined reference is applied to the telescopic rod part 41 in the shortest state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
