A unique process and catalyst are described that work efficiently to directly produce high-cetane diesel-type fuel or components for mixing diesel-type from stoichiometric mixtures of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The present invention allows, but not limited to, economical and efficient production of high-quality diesel fuels at small or remote local fuel plants that have annual production capacities of less than 10,000 barrels of products per day, by eliminating traditional paraffin modification processes. This catalytic process is ideally suited for remote local plants producing diesel fuel, for example for the production of liquids from gas (synthetic liquid fuels) and other uses that require economic justification based on the available distributed resources of the feedstock.
