Disclosed are a system and a method for providing metadata of an open source project. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for providing metadata of an open source project comprises the following steps: when an open source project is inputted, identifying metadata from the inputted open source project and using the identified metadata to extract a group of candidates; extracting a final group of candidates according to similarity of at least open source project included in the extracted group of candidates, and then arranging at least one open source project included in the extracted final group of candidates; and outputting an open source project having the highest similarity among at least one open source project within the arranged final group of candidates and metadata related thereto.
