Method of a shunting locomotive with a hybrid power plant operation is in supply of traction asynchronous electric motors by traction batteries and a diesel generator. At that, on the electrified sections of the direct current tracks, taking the electric power from the catenary system and powering the traction motors. On the sections of the alternate current tracks, taking the electric power from the catenary system and powering the traction motors. At that, charging the rechargeable batteries from the voltage converter via the auxiliary converter. During the locomotive braking, traction motors are switched into generator mode, generating electric power and charging the batteries. With the switched off traction motors, the diesel generator set is charging the batteries.
