Invention is a method for evaluating the quality of seed Rhododendron ledebourii Pojark on the cytogenetic indexes of seeds, including collection and germination of seeds of phenotypically healthy maternal Rhododendron ledebourii Pojark plants, preparation of a continuously-compressed micro-preparation from the spine of each sprout 0.5–1 cm in length, analysis of cytogenetic indicators of each micro preparation, such as “mitotic activity” as the ratio of the number of dividing cells to the total number of counted cells (%), “percentage of cells in the prophase phase of mitosis” (%) as the ratio of the number of cells in the prophase to the number of dividing cells, “proportion of cells in the mitosis metaphase stage” (%) as the ratio of the number of cells in the metaphase to the number of dividing cells, “percentage of cells in the anaphase-telophase phase of mitosis” (%) as the ratio of the number of cells in anaphase-telophase to the number of dividing cells, the “mitosis pathology level” as the ratio of the number of cells with mitosis disorders to the total number of dividing cells (%), nucleolar characteristics “level of cells with residual nucleoli at the stage of metaphase-telophase mitosis” as the ratio of the number of cells with residual nucleoli to the total number of cells in these stages (%) and “average surface area of single nucleoli” (mcm), where collection of seeds is produced from each of the mother plants separately, an analysis of at least 19 microscopic preparations and at least 500 cells of each micropreparation is performed, “average surface area of single nucleoli” is determined by 200 cells per micro preparation, the obtained values of cytogenetic indicators are compared with the values for mutable or weakly-abutting groups, indicator “mitotic activity” refers to a mutable group with a value of not more than 8 % “proportion of cells at the stage of mitosis prophase” – at a value above 45 %, “proportion of cells in the mitosis metaphase stage” – at a value above 25 %, “proportion of cells in the anaphase-telophase phase of mitosis” – at a value of not more than 30 % “level of cells with residual nucleoli at the stage of metaphase-telophase mitosis” – at a value above 8 %, “average surface area of single nucleoli” – at a value of 76 mcmand more, otherwise, indicators refer to a weakly-mutating group; if more than 3 indicators were in the mutable group, then the sprout is referred to the mutable group, and if 3 or less – then to the weakly mutating; if not less than half of the seedlings are in a weakly-mutating group, the quality of the seeds of the mother plant is estimated as high, if less – then as low.EFFECT: invention allows to quickly and easily assess the quality of Rhododendron ledebourii Pojark seeds according to cytogenetic characteristics.1 cl, 5 tbl
