A method for controlling a vehicle having an automated drive system in response to receiving a drive cycle destination from a user includes determining a first route from a current vehicle location to the drive cycle destination and a second route from the current vehicle location to the drive cycle destination. The first route is different from the second route. The method further includes determining if a user criterion has been met. The method further includes automatically controlling the vehicle to the driving cycle destination according to the first route in response to the satisfaction of the user criterion, or according to the second route in response to the failure to satisfy the user criterion.
