This conversion system (2) is be mounted in a vehicle (4) and comprises:- a tank (6) suitable for containing an ammonia precursor,- a decomposition unit (12) for decomposing the ammonia precursor into a gas containing ammonia,- a buffer (20) located downstream of the decomposition unit (12) for storing the gas produced by the decomposition unit (12),- a device (22) to be fed with the gas stored in the buffer (20), and- a return line (24) connecting the buffer (20) to the tank (6).
