To detect a defect existing on the upside and downside of the boundary surface between two members in a laser weld unit of a lap joint.SOLUTION: A transverse-wave generation laser LaTT and a longitudinal wave generation laser LaTL are radiated to different positions on one side of a weld line We. A transverse-wave receiving laser LaRT and longitudinal wave receiving laser LaRL are radiated to different positions on the other side of the weld line We. A transverse ultrasonic wave WT is detected by the transverse-wave receiving laser LaRT, and a defect De1 at a position deeper than a boundary surface SB between a first member 201 and a second member 202 is detected. A longitudinal ultrasonic wave WL is detected by the longitudinal-wave receiving laser LaRL, and a defect De3 at a position shallower than a boundary surface SB is detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
