PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve steering performance of a vehicle. SOLUTION: A steering characteristic setting device 5 is applied to an electric power steering 2 that gives an assist force to a steering system of a vehicle, and includes an acquisition unit 5B and a setting unit 5C. The acquisition unit 5B acquires information according to the load mounted on the vehicle. The setting unit 5C sets the characteristics of the assist force based on the information acquired by the acquisition unit 5B.
