Provided is a rechargeable battery comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode contains, as a positive electrode active material, a lithium transition metal composite oxide having an α-NaFeO2 crystalline structure, wherein the molar ratio of Li to Me (where Me are transition metals including Ni and Mn, or Ni, Mn and Co) is 1Li/Me, and the molar ratio of Mn to Me is 0.40≤Mn/Me≤0.65. The nonaqueous electrolyte includes, as the electrolyte salts, LiPF6 and lithium imide salt.
