[Problem] To provide: a nitrogen-based gas sustained release agent that is capable of sustained release of a nitrogen-based gas in air at ambient temperature and is safe to handle; a nitrogen-based gas sustained release body comprising the same; a nitrogen-based gas sustained release method using the sustained release body; a breathing instrument; a wrapping body; and a device for sustainably releasing a nitrogen-based gas. [Solution] This nitrogen-based gas sustained release agent contains a layered double hydroxide in which nitrite ion (NO2-) and/or sulfate ion (NO3-) is/are included between layers. A nitrogen-based gas sustained release body comprising the nitrogen-based gas sustained release agent is exposed to a gas containing carbon dioxide or water vapor to induce any one or more processes of sustained release of nitrous acid, self-decomposition of nitrous acid, oxidation/reduction of nitrous acid, and reduction of nitrite ion and/or sulfate ion, thereby causing sustained release of a nitrogen-based gas.
