The present invention relates to a method for identifying a subject at risk of progressing to left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), comprising measuring the amount of biomarker soluble ST2 and comparing the measured amount to a reference. Kits and devices employed to perform the methods of the invention are also included in the invention.
