A chute 10 for safely transporting a person from a height. Chute 10 comprising: a flexible cylindrical tube for accommodating the person; a plurality of circumferential sleeves 21 arranged axially along the tube; and a plurality of elastically deformable bands 27 accommodated in the sleeves 21, the sleeves 21 spaced so that in use, a plurality of bands 27 extend circumferentially around the person. Preferably sleeves 21 are formed from a portion of an inner cylindrical flexible tube 20 and a portion of an outer cylindrical flexible tube 26, where inner and outer tubes 20&26 are concentrically sewn to make circumferential sleeves 21. Each band 27 may be formed from a strip of material that’s joined at its free ends without puncturing the band material, where each band’s free ends may be joined by folding them through two rings. Chute 10 may comprise a frame 38 for supporting chute 10 at an upper end alongside another structure 35. Chute 10 may comprise a longitudinal webbing strap 31 adding strength and distributing load. Also: a method of enabling a person’s safe descent from a height; a method of manufacturing a chute; and a method of treatment by therapy involving a chute.
