Provided are embodiments for a system and method for performing real-time performance and health monitoring of an ice detector system. Embodiments include sensing, by a current sensor (210), a current parameter of a drive coil (104) of an ice detector circuit, and monitoring a performance and health of the ice detector circuit based at least in part on the current parameter, where the drive coil (104) is coupled to a feedback coil that is configured to provide a feedback signal to a driver circuit (200) to control the drive coil (104). Embodiments also include comparing the performance of the ice detector circuit and expected performance of the ice detector circuit, and providing a report based at least in part on the comparison.
