The West Virginia Heritage Trust Program--Alternatives for the Future: the Application of Heritage Data to the Planning Process

The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources and The Nature Conservancy initiated the West Virginia Heritage Trust Program in 1975 to: (1) Establish a statewide inventory of West Virginia's natural heritage; (2) Establish an information system to collect, manage, and disseminate this inventory information; (3) Help decision makers determine which areas are most worthy of protection; (4) Act to protect important natural areas. These inventories comprise plant and animal species, which are believed to be endangered. Abstracts are given which provide distribution and life history of these endangered species.
