Evaluation of the Response Characteristics of the ECE 6-Year-Old Child Size Dummy

The objective of this research effort was to evaluate the measurement characteristics of a six-year-old child size dummy developed for the Economic Commission of Europe (ECE). The dummy was first subjected to a series of replicate calibration tests. The calibration tests consisted of a pendulum-to-head impact, a pendulum-to-thorax impact, a lumbar spine flexion test, and a head drop. A series of four 30 mph sled tests using the procedures prescribed in the current FMVSS No. 213, Child Restraints was performed.
