A History of Tropical Cyclones in the Central North Pacific and the Hawaiian Islands 1832-1979

A summary is presented of the meteorological characteristics and effects of tropical cyclones which have occurred in the Central North Pacific before 1980. The major objectives are to: Summarize historical data concerning tropical cyclones in the Central North Pacific; note the effects of damaging surf, hurricane-force winds, and torrential rains related to past tropical cyclones in the Hawaiian Islands; and discuss past effects of tropical cyclone activity in the Central North Pacific on agriculture, aviation, military activities, and shipping.
