Examination of Tidal Flats. Volume 3: Evaluation Methodology

This report is the third volume of three, documenting a study titled 'Evaluation of Tidal Flat Areas for Highway Planning and Design.' This report describes an approach to the evaluation of tidal flats which centers around state-of-the-art knowledge for: (1) assessing the values of tidal flats and (2) establishing the basis for comparison of specific sites. Parameters identified as important for evaluation of tidal flat value fall into two categories; (1) Primary producers (chlorophyll a concentration and light intensity) and (2) Support populations (annelid, mollusc, and crustacean biomass and abundance).
