Survey of the Published Data Concerning the Total Hemispherical Emissivity of Uranium Dioxide

The difficulties in the measurement of radiation properties, and the interpretation of published data for uranium dioxide are discussed. Consideration of the experimental techniques used leads to a recommended value for the total hemispherical emissivity of UO sub 2 as 0.85+-0.05 over the temperature range 1000K to 3130K; this is based principally on the spectral data of Bober and Karow.
