Hematoporphyrin Mediated Photodynamic Theraphy for Treatments of head and Neck Cancer Clinical Update 1996

At the time of this report HPD-PDT produced complete responses in 24 patients (follow up 6 months to 9 years) with “field cancerization”(CIS, T1N2M3) of the oral cavity and larynx (6 cases), obstructing esophageal carcinoma (1 cases), and stage IV squamous cell carcinoma of the nasopharvnx (1 case), and radiation therapy or solar-induced basal cell/squamous cell carcinomas (2 cases). PDT treatments protocols, results, complication, and application as adjunct or primary oncologic therapy for head and neck cancer are reviewed in this article.
